To get the drivers' licence renewed, the holder may not have to go through the procedure of the no objection certificate (NOC) and then submit the application to the RTO as details will be available on the holders' database, Times of India reported.

Government officials told the paper that they will soon issue an advisory to the state transport departments to direct all the RTOs not to seek physical NOC from those seeking a renewal or transfer. This is because the information of all drivers can be accessed on Sarathi, the drivers' online database.

The official said that the details of the holder can be checked using the online system, which covers almost all the RTOs.

Since this was not available in the past, the holders were required to go to issuing authority to get the NOC and then submit it to the RTO. Around 1,000 RTOs in India are on the Sarathi platform.

The officials also told the paper that they were working on the proposal to make the transfer of vehicles from one state to another hassle free and said the varied tax norms is the only hurdle for framing the policy.
