As Philip Hammond, UK chancellor began looking for candidates to replace Mark Carney as the governor of Bank of England, a number of names stand in the list of promising candidates.

“The formal process has not yet started but I, and many other people I am sure, may have cast their eye around various rooms to see if any likely looking candidates hove into view,” Mr Hammond was quoted by FT.

With this, the government seems to be considering a non-British appointment even as the UK prepares for Brexit.

Other possible names include Andy Haldane, the BoE chief economist, Paul Tucker, the former deputy governor, Minouche Shafik, director of the London School of Economics and Sharon White, chief executive of Britain’s communications regulator Ofcom.
