Stocks Uneven Pre-Bell as Wall Street Awaits Producer Price Report; Asia, Europe Churn

07:28 AM EDT, 05/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US equity futures were uneven before Tuesday's open as traders gear up for the release of last month's producer price index report.

The S&P 500 futures remained nearly flat, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly in the green and the Nasdaq was off less than 0.1% in premarket activity. Asian and European exchanges were mixed to lower.

On the economic calendar, in addition to the PPI report at 8:30 am ET, the National Federation of Independent Business' optimism index showed a 1.2-point increase for April to 89.7.

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook is scheduled to speak at 9 am, while Fed Chair Jerome Powell speaks at 10 am. Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid is slated to speak at 8:15 pm.

GameStop's ( GME ) shares continued to surge 58% pre-bell after closing Monday's trading session with a 74% jump. The movement comes as the person behind the 2021 rally in the video game retailer's stock resurfaced on social media site X, following a seemingly three-year hiatus. AMC Entertainment ( AMC ) spiked 65% amid the meme stocks frenzy. Tilray Brands' ( TLRY ) stock climbed 15%.

Home Depot ( HD ) , Alibaba Group ( BABA ) , Sea (SE), On Holding ( ONON ) and International Game Technology ( IGT ) report their latest financial results early Tuesday, among others. Nextracker ( NXT ) posts earnings in the afterhours.

Before the bell, bitcoin dropped 2.3% to $61,607, West Texas Intermediate crude inched 0.1% higher to $79.17 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries dipped 0.4 basis points to 4.48% and gold gained 0.3% to $2,349 an ounce.
