India's rail transportation system is set for a change as 'Train 18', India’s fastest train, is ready to hit the tracks.
Built at a cost of Rs 100 crore, the train runs at a speed of 160 kilometer per hour. It is also the country's first engine-less train.
The name 'Train 18' comes from 2018, which was originally supposed to be its launch year. The inception of the train took place in April 2017 and after a period of one-and-a-half year, the train’s assembly took place at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.
The train received its components from around 100 local companies and a handful of global ones.
However, the route between Delhi and Varanasi does not allow the train to reach its maximum speed due to restriction of track. It will now run at 130 kmph.
