US Dollar Falls Early Friday Ahead of S&P Flash, New Home Sales

07:28 AM EDT, 07/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar fell against its major trading partners early Friday ahead of the release of preliminary manufacturing and services estimates for July from S&P Global at 9:45 am ET, followed by new home sales data for June at 10:00 am ET.

The Kansas City Federal Reserve's services reading for July is set to be released at 11:00 am ET, and the St. Louis Fed is due to update its GDP nowcast estimate for Q2 around midday.

A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Friday:

EUR/USD rose to 1.1383 from 1.1378 at the Thursday US close but was below a level of 1.1405 at the same time Thursday morning. Preliminary Eurozone manufacturing and services PMI both improved in July to indicate modest expansion, according to data released earlier Friday. European Central Bank policy board member Philip Lane is due to speak at 11:30 am ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for September 10.

GBP/USD rose to 1.3326 from 1.3318 at the Thursday US close but was below a level of 1.3367 at the same time Thursday morning. UK retail sales rose at a slower pace in June than in May, but the year-over-year rates accelerated, while preliminary UK manufacturing and services PMI both indicated modest expansion in July, data released earlier Friday showed. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for July 30.

USD/JPY fell to 163.7793 from 163.8239 at the Thursday US close but was above a level of 163.3720 at the same time Thursday morning. Japanese consumer price growth slowed in June, but the year-over-year rate accelerated. Preliminary Japanese manufacturing and services PMI declined in July but remained above the breakeven point, according to data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for July 30-31.

USD/CAD fell to 1.4081 from 1.4083 at the Thursday US close and 1.4082 at the same time Thursday morning. Canadian industrial product, raw material and new home prices, all for June, are due to be released at 8:30 am ET. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2.
