US Dollar Rises Early Monday Ahead of Light Data Schedule This Week
Jul 20, 2026 5:02 AM

07:36 AM EDT, 07/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Monday, except for a decline versus the pound, ahead of a relatively light week of data releases, made even quieter because Federal Reserve officials are in a blackout period ahead of the July 28-29 Federal Open Market Committee meeting.

Monday's schedule includes only leading indicators data for June to be released at 10:00 am ET.

Tuesday's highlights include the Philadelphia Fed's non-manufacturing reading for July, weekly Redbook same-store sales, and state-level unemployment data for June.

Weekly mortgage applications and crude oil stocks data are due to be released on Wednesday.

Weekly jobless claims and natural gas stocks data, the Chicago Fed's national index for June, and the Kansas City Fed's manufacturing reading for July are set to be released on Thursday.

Friday's highlights include the S&P Global flash estimates for July, new home sales for June, and the Kansas City Fed's services reading for July.

A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Monday:

EUR/USD fell to 1.1429 from 1.1441 at the Friday US close and 1.1431 at the same time Friday morning. Eurozone construction output increased in May, according to data released earlier Monday. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Thursday, when no change in the policy rate is expected.

GBP/USD rose to 1.3469 from 1.3459 at the Friday US close and 1.3436 at the same time Friday morning. There are no UK data on Monday's schedule. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for July 30.
