07:38 AM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Tuesday ahead of a busy schedule of data releases and multiple appearances by Federal Reserve officials before the Juneteenth Holiday on Wednesday.
The day starts with retail sales data for May at 8:30 am ET, followed by weekly Redbook same store sales at 8:55 am ET, industrial production data for May at 9:15 am ET, business inventories data at 10:00 and Treasury International Capital System data at 4:00 pm ET.
There are six appearances by Fed officials on Tuesday's schedule. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin is due to speak at 10:00 am ET, followed by Boston Fed President Susan Collins at 11:40 am ET, Fed Governor Adriana Kugler and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan both at 1:00 pm ET, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem at 1:20 pm ET and Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee at 2:00 pm ET.
Only Barkin and Kugler vote on the Federal Open Market Committee in 2024.

EUR-USD fell to 1.0715 from 1.0732 at the Monday US close but was up from 1.0710 at the same time Monday morning. Eurozone consumer prices rose as expected in May, lifting the year-over-year rates compared with April, while Eurozone investor sentiment improved in June, according to data released earlier Tuesday. European Central Bank Vice President Luis De Guindos is set to speak at 9:30 am ET. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for July 18.
GBP-USD fell to 1.2685 from 1.2703 at the Monday US close but was up from a level of 1.2670 at the same time Monday morning. There are no UK data on Tuesday's schedule. The next Bank of England policy board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, when no change in interest rates is expected.
USD-JPY rose to 158.1391 from 157.7237 at the Monday US close and 157.6534 at the same time Monday morning. There were no Japanese data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for July 30-31.
USD-CAD rose to 1.3748 from 1.3725 at the Monday US close and 1.3739 at the same time Monday morning. There are no Canadian data on Tuesday's schedule. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for July 24.
