US Dollar Rises Early Tuesday Ahead of Trade, Services, Confidence Sentiment Data

07:49 AM EDT, 08/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Tuesday, except for a decline versus the pound, ahead of a busy economic data release day, starting with international trade data for June at 8:30 am ET, followed by weekly Redbook same-store sales at 8:55 am ET.

Services purchasing managers' index data for July from S&P Global are due to be released at 9:45 am ET, followed by services data for July from the Institute for Supply Management at 10:00 am ET. Confidence sentiment data for August are also due at 10:00 am ET.

The Atlanta Federal Reserve's gross domestic product Nowcast estimate for Q3 is expected to be updated around midday.

A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Tuesday:

EUR/USD fell to 1.1540 from 1.1566 at the Monday US close and 1.1574 at the same time Monday morning. The Eurozone's services PMI rose further above its breakeven point in July, now indicating faster expansion, while Eurozone producer prices rebounded in June after a decline in the previous month, according to data released earlier Tuesday. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11.

GBP/USD rose to 1.3280 from 1.3275 at the Monday US close but was below a level of 1.3301 at the same time Monday morning. The UK's services PMI declined in July but still indicated expansion, while UK car registrations fell in July, according to data released earlier Tuesday. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Thursday, when a 25 basis point rate reduction is expected.

USD/JPY rose to 147.6645 from 147.0346 at Monday US close and 147.5869 at the same time Monday morning. Japan's services PMI increased in July to indicated faster expansion, data released overnight showed. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Sept. 18-19.

USD/CAD rose to 1.3800 from 1.3779 at the Monday US close and 1.3775 at the same time Monday morning. Canada's trade balance for June is due to be released at 8:30 am ET. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17.
