US economic data will not include jobless rate for October, Hassett says
Nov 13, 2025 7:09 AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Data on the U.S. unemployment rate for October may never be available after the weeks-long federal government shutdown, White House economic Adviser Kevin Hassett said on Thursday as federal workers returned to work.

"The household survey wasn't conducted in October, so we're going to get half the employment report. We'll get the jobs part, but we won't get the unemployment rate. And that'll just be for one month," Hassett told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "We probably ... will never actually know for sure what the unemployment rate was in October."

12:36 PM EDT, 06/05/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Increased upside risk to inflation from higher tariffs and stable labor markets and employment suggest that the interest rates should be held steady, Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Kugler said Thursday at the Economic Club of New York. Disinflation has slowed, and we are already seeing the effects of higher tariffs, which I expect...

US trade deficit narrows sharply in April; imports post record drop
Jun 5, 2025
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. trade deficit narrowed sharply in April, with imports decreasing by the most on record as the front-running of goods ahead of tariffs ebbed, which could provide a lift to economic growth this quarter. The trade gap contracted by a record 55.5% to $61.6 billion, the lowest level since September 2023, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic...
