U.S. labor union membership little changed in 2024, government says
Jan 28, 2025 7:44 AM

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Union membership levels dipped ever so slightly in 2024 as government workers maintained outsized representation in the ranks of organized labor, a government report Tuesday said.

Some 9.9% of American workers were represented by unions, compared to 10% in 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in an annual release. Just over 14 million workers were members of unions, in a report that also noted that the union membership rate for government workers was five times higher than for private sector workers.
