Vibrant Gujarat: Government claims 28,000 MOUs inked at investor summit, no word on total investments

Over 28,000 MOUs have been inked at Vibrant Gujarat 2019, according to chief minister Vijay Rupani. “Every State has started conducting investor summits, taking a leaf out of Gujarat’s book,” said Rupani, while addressing attendees at the valedictory ceremony of the three-day-long investment summit. He added, “28,360 MOUs have been signed at Vibrant Gujarat this year, and the MSME sector has received a very strong response at the summit.”

The Gujarat Government, meanwhile, said that the summit this year saw around 40,000 participants in attend from 135 countries. Over 3,000 of these delegates were from overseas, while more than 20 ministerial delegations also attended the summit, the government claimed. In all, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani chaired 128 meetings with top CEOs.

Gujarat’s investor summit this year, saw big-ticket investments as always. Reliance Industries led the pack pledging to double its existing investment of Rs 3 lakh crore in the state, over the course of the next ten years. Not to be left behind, the Adani Group also committed to invest Rs 55,000 crore in the state over the next five years. “Adani Group investments in Gujarat will include the world’s larget solar plant, at a 30,000-crore-rupee investment,” said Group chairman, Gautam Adani.

The Aditya Birla Group pledged a 15,000-crore-rupee investment in the state, over a three-year period, while Suzuki Motors has said it will enhance the capacity of its Gujarat plant to 7,50,000 units, shortly.

Addressing the media, Gujarat Deputy CM Nitin Patel said, "21 lakh jobs are expected to be created on estimated translation of MOUs." Patel added, "A total of Rs 15,000 crore worth of MOUs were signed by way of trade shows at Vibrant Gujarat 2019."

The Deputy Chief Minister did not declare total investments, netted at the investor summit.

The Government said that 408 of these MOUs were in the agro and food processing industry, while Power, Oil and Gas accounted for 548 MOUs. Other mineral-based sectors accounted for 977 MOUs with environment and forestry bringing up the rear with 313 MOUs.

The state's MSME sector accounted for 21,089 MOUs, at Vibrant Gujarat 2019.

Vibrant Gujarat’s valedictory ceremony was attended by Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu, who called for “all countries to come together to solve the issue of corruption”.
