The Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday decided to extend the summer vacation of schools till June 26 in view of the scorching heat, an official said. Schools were scheduled to reopen on June 16.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed the officials to extend the summer vacation to ensure the children are safe, in view of high temperatures and the heatwave in the region, the official said.
The school education department will soon be issuing a directive regarding the extension of summer vacations.
On Tuesday, the Raipur met department forecast a heatwave at isolated pockets in central Chhattisgarh for four days. It also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at 30 to 40km/hour at isolated places in the state over four days.
