In view of the persistent degradation of the air quality in the city, the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the state governments of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to ensure that there is no stubble burning in their states, saying it cannot let people be affected due to pollution. The Supreme Court was hearing a matter which was related to debilitating air pollution in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), also pulled out the Delhi government and asked whether the odd-even scheme had succeeded previously when implemented.
The bench of justice included Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, reported the Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has been taking several measures to curb air pollution, which include water spraying and dust suppressant powder in heavily polluted areas. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has deployed 517 surveillance teams of over 1,100 officers to ensure a ban on construction and demolition activities across the national capital, reported Money Control.
On the other hand, in the Delhi-NCR areas such as Noida and Ghaziabad, authorities have suspended the physical classes in the schools.
