Heavy Rain LIVE Updates | Cloudburst strikes Himachal again, houses washed away, national highway blocked

Himachal Pradesh continues to face the wrath of heavy monsoon rains as a cloudburst struck the Rampur sub-division of Shimla district, causing significant damage to property and infrastructure. The unfortunate incident washed away a school, five houses, and agricultural land in Kandhar village, while a landslide blocked the Shimla-Kinnaur road near Jhakri and Joeri areas. Rampur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nishant Tomar said about 20 sheep and goats and some cows were swept away following the cloudburst in Kandhar village in Sarpara panchayat on Tuesday and landslide has blocked the Shimla-Kinnaur road. He said machines are deployed at the landslide site, but shooting stones are obstructing the restoration work. However, so far no casualty has been reported and immediate relief has been provided to the affected people, he said.

Incessant heavy rain lashed Mumbai on Wednesday, slowing down road traffic but services of suburban trains remained normal with slight delays. Amid the orange alert on Wednesday for Mumbai, the island city and suburbs have been receiving heavy downpours since morning. Mumbai city received 61.19 mm of rainfall between 8 am and 4 pm, while eastern suburbs and western suburbs recorded 34.53 mm and 40.68 mm of rainfall, respectively, in the same period. The intensity of rain was more in the suburbs in the morning hours while the island city received intermittent heavy showers in the afternoon.

Heavy Rain LIVE Updates | Orange alert issued for Mumbai on July 27 amid heavy rainfall

The weather bureau has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts for Thursday predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places. "The weather bureau has predicted heavy rain in Mumbai and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places, and the possibility of occasional strong winds reaching 45-55 kmph in the next 24 hours," as per the daily weather forecast issued on Wednesday morning. Andheri subway, an underpass between Andheri and Jogeshwari railway stations, was closed for traffic a couple of times since morning due to waterlogging, but other areas in the metropolis didn't report any major inundation during the day. The heavy rain slowed down road traffic in Mumbai city and suburbs but services of local trains and BEST buses are normal with some delays, officials said.

Heavy Rains Update | Heavy rainfall recorded over Delhi, Orange and Red alerts issued for various regions

Soma Senroy, the Spokesperson and Scientist of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a significant episode of heavy rainfall was recorded over Delhi from yesterday late night to early morning, with two observatories, Mangeshpur and Mayur Vihar, recording a staggering 110 mm of rainfall. However, the Safdarjung observatory recorded a comparatively lower amount of 4 cm rainfall.

The IMD also issued an orange alert for the next three days, predicting a continued spell of heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Additionally, they are expecting substantial rainfall, up to 20 cm, over north Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh. In response to the adverse weather conditions, the IMD has issued red alerts for Telangana, Vidarbha, Konkan, and coastal Karnataka, urging residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
