The air quality in Mumbai has been showing a significant improvement following the unseasonal rain over the weekend. The city witnessed a clear and sunny sky on Wednesday morning, along with a thin layer of fog, signifying the arrival of winter in the city.

According to the latest data by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality index (AQI) in Mumbai stood at 78, with the air quality remaining in the ‘satisfactory’ category.

However, a few areas across the city recorded ‘moderate’ AQI levels. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, Bandra Kurla Complex recorded AQI at 197, Borivali East at 115, Kandivali West at 104, and Shivaji Nagar at 119, all falling into the ‘moderate’ category.

Byculla recorded an AQI of 66, Chembur at 63, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 85, Deonar at 93, Ghatkopar at 65, Kandivali East at 92, Kurla at 98, Malad West at 86, Mazagaon at 90, and Worli at 58, all falling into ‘satisfactory’ category.

Mumbai experienced temperatures between 21 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius on Wednesday morning.

A significant improvement in the city’s air quality has been seen after the unseasonal rain and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday this week. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted clear sunny skies in the city and suburbs on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, following the review of the air pollution control measures by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on November 21, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) finished the repair work of Khar Subway within a week.

As a part of controlling air pollution, the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses are being installed with air purifiers. According to a Free Press Journal report, the authorities have installed air purifiers on 21 buses so far, out of which 13 BEST buses equipped the rooftop air purifiers on Tuesday, November 28. The initiative aims to install air purifiers on 350 BEST buses in the first phase.
