Q: 33-year-old Senthil Kumar S writes us from Chennai. I am a new investor in mutual fund with an investment horizon of 15 plus years. I have not decided the corpus which I need to invest in. But I am planning for my child's education, marriage, home loan re-payment and retirement.
My current investments are Rs 6,000-8,000 per month in Public Provident Fund (PPF), Rs 10,000 lump sum in Axis long term Equity Fund, Rs 10,000 lump sum in ABSL Tax Relief 96 Fund and Rs 3,000 per month in mutual fund. Currently, I am investing Rs 1,000 per month in Reliance Large Cap, Rs 1,000 per month in L&T Mid Cap and Rs 1,000 per month in HDFC Small Cap. Please suggest your views for the above funds.
I am also planning to invest Rs 1,000 per month in ICICI Pru Regular Saving, Rs 1,000 per month in Mirae Asset Emerging Blue Chip and Rs 1,000 per month in ICICI Pru Balanced Advantage. Is it good to increase the SIP amount in the above funds, if it's is good to go? Else, may I include one more large, mid and small cap funds along with the current invested funds.
A: Overall, profile is that of a moderate risk investor with a higher allocation to debt on a monthly basis. Funds selected – Reliance Large Cap, L&T MidCap and HDFC Small Cap – are good funds. Ideally, add into the same funds. If you want to add a fund, add Mirae Emerging Bluechip with is now a large + mid fund, which will balance your portfolio.
