Q: 45-year-old S Rajesh writes us from Chennai. Invested in two folios with equal amount of Rs 5 lakh each in HDFC Corporate Bond. I want my daughter to do a CPL Programme to become pilot. So kindly advise me how to make money in 3.5 years.
A: HDFC Corporate Bond Fund is a debt fund and hence the return is restricted to 7-8 percent. Since, your goal is not quantified as to what amount you require after 3.5 years and also we are not aware of your risk-taking ability, hence we would recommend you to first quantify your goal and risk bearing capacity. We would recommend you to invest for 3-5 years in 60:40 ratio in equity and debt respectively. Investing in equity will help you grow your wealth, while debt will give a cushion to your portfolio.
