Despite the heightened volatility due to ongoing Lok Sabha Elections and trade war between US and China, Sensex rose 1.25 percent during the last week to close at 37,930.77. This was the highest closing level of Sensex since 7 May 2019. During the same time, Nifty 50 index rose 1.14 percent to settle at 11,407.15, the highest closing level since May 7, 2019 for Nifty as well.

On May 13, China announced that it will raise tariffs on $60 billion worth of US goods, beginning from 1 June 2019. This announcement came after US President Donald Trump had raised duties on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods from 10 percent to 25 percent.

According to data released by AMFI (Association of Mutual Funds in India), inflows into Mid Cap and Small Cap funds have been higher than inflows in Large Cap funds during the month of April. Net inflow into Large Cap funds in April was Rs 48.27 crore, compared to Rs 491.04 crore and Rs 955.83 crore into Mid Cap and Small Cap funds respectively.
