Asia fuel oil margins to be supported through mid-year on strong demand.##Asia fuel oil margins to be supported through mid-year on strong demand.

Asian refining margins for fuel oil are set to hold near their current strong levels through the summer as increased use of the fuel by utilities to power air conditioners for cooling and disruptions to trade flows shrink global supplies.

"Robust power generation demand in the Middle East (notably Saudi Arabia) should result in lower fuel oil outflows from the region," said Iman Nasseri, managing director of energy consultancy FGE's Middle East office.

While fuel oil markets typically strengthen during the northern hemisphere summer months, four trade sources said fuel oil margins have demonstrated additional strength this year by shrugging off sharp gains in crude oil prices, which in mid-May climbed to their highest since November 2014.

May retail inflation may rise on higher energy prices, a CNBC-TV18 poll said.##May retail inflation may rise on higher energy prices, a CNBC-TV18 poll said.

India's retail inflation likely to rose in May on the back of a surge in global crude prices, according to a poll of economists conducted by CNBC-TV18.

Inflation measured by consumer price index (CPI) likely to jump between 4.8 percent and 5 percent last month, the poll suggested. It stood at 4.6 percent in April.

Higher energy prices and increased government spending in the run up to 2019 general election will keep pressure on inflation going ahead, analysts said.

As India imports nearly 80 percent of its oil needs, any surge in global crude prices poses a threat not just to inflation but also to the recovering economy.

Gold dips on strong dollar post Trump-Kim meeting; Fed in focus.##Gold dips on strong dollar post Trump-Kimmeeting; Fed in focus.

Gold prices edged lower on Tuesday as the dollar strengthened following a positive US-North Korea summit, with markets now waiting for a likely interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve.

Spot gold was down 0.1 percent at $1,297.96 per ounce at 0719 GMT and US gold futures for August delivery were 0.1-percent lower at $1,301.90 per ounce.

"The dollar has been a big driver for some time now and investors are certainly taking more from that than from easing geopolitical risks in recent runs ... I suspect that will be the key driver for the short term," said ANZ analyst Daniel Hynes.

The dollar hit a three-week high against the yen on Tuesday and Asian shares gained as US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a "comprehensive" deal at a historic summit aimed at the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.
