Oil marketing companies tanked after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced they will share excise cut burden. All major sectoral indices ended in the red.

ICICI Bank shares traded at Rs 300.05, lower by 1.2 percent, recovering from the day's low of Rs 294.80. The ICICI Bank's board on Thursday accepted Chanda Kochhar's request to seek early retirement. The board has appointed Sandeep Bakhshi as the bank's MD and CEO for 5 years with effect from October 3. Meanwhile, there has been no respite from selling in the market. The Sensex traded at 35,138.33, diving 837.30 points, or 2.33 percent, while the Nifty was trading at 10,599, sharply lower by 259.25 points, or 2.39 percent.
"The Board of Directors of ICICI Bank Limited, accepted the request of Ms Chanda Kochhar to seek early retirement from the Bank at the earliest. The Board accepted this request with immediate effect. The enquiry instituted by the Board will remain unaffected by this and certain benefits will be subject to the outcome of the enquiry. Ms Kochhar will also relinquish office from the Board of Directors of the Bank's subsidiaries. The Board decided to appoint Mr. Sandeep Bakhshi as Managing Director & Chief
Executive Officer. His appointment will be for a period of five years until October 3, 2023, subject to regulatory and other approvals. The other terms and conditions of his appointment, such as remuneration, would remain unchanged. Separately, due to health reasons Mr MD Mallya, Independent Director, resigned from the Board and the same was accepted," the ICICI Bank said in an exchange filing.

The Sensex tanked 778 points, or 2.16 percent, to trade at 35,198. The 50-share broader NSE Nifty50 also declined by 2.24 percent, or 243 points, to trade at 10,615. After opening at the day's high of 35,820, the Sensex hit the day's low at 35,163. The Nifty too has seen a low of 10,605, after opening at 10,755. Broader markets fell in tandem with frontline indices with losses over 2.3 percent, while all sectoral indices on the NSE trade in the red with Auto, FMCG, IT, Pharma and Realty posting losses of more than 2 percent.
