The Sensex and Nifty ended lower on Monday with Nifty barely holding 11,600 levels dragged by losses in banking, realty, metal and energy sectors. The S&P BSE Sensex ended the day at 38,700, down 161 points, while the broader NSE Nifty50 was settled at 11,604, slipping 61 points. Broader markets were in-line with frontline indices with Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices faling 0.7 and 0.5 percent, respectively. Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, M&M and PowerGrid were top gainers on Nifty, while Indiabulls Housing Finnace, IOC, Bajaj Finance, Vedanta, Yes Bank, and Tata Motors fell the most. All sectoral indices, except Nifty IT were trading in red. Nifty Realty fell the most followed by banking and financial services FMCG indices.

Baring Private Equity Asia will not integrate or consolidate NIIT Technologies with any of their other investments for a defined period of at least two years, said Rajendra S Pawar, chairman of NIIT Technologies.
Baring PE has signed an agreement to buy approximately 30 percent shareholding in NIIT Technologies from NIIT Ltd and other promoter entities at a price of Rs 1,394 per share for an aggregate consideration of Rs 2,627 crore. CNBC-TV18 first reported about the deal on February 21.
Baring PE will also make an open offer to the public shareholders of NIIT Technologies to purchase up to 26 percent additional shareholding for Rs 4,890 crores. Baring PE believes the leadership team led by Sudhir Singh is excellent, Pawar said. READ MORE

Shares of oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Indian Oil (IOC) dropped up to 3 percent on Monday as the crude oil prices rose to their highest level since November 2018, owing to OPEC’s ongoing supply cuts, US sanctions against Iran and Venezuela, and strong US jobs data.
International benchmark Brent futures were at $70.65 per barrel at 10:11 am on Monday, up 31 cents, or 0.4 per cent from their last close. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude were up 31 cents, or 0.5 per cent, at $63.39 per barrel, Reuters reported.

The auto sector is likely to witness a 25 percent year-on-year (YoY) decline in earnings, while IT companies will record a 13 percent profit growth in the March quarter, said Gautam Duggad, head of research, at Motilal Oswal Institutional Equities.
“We are expecting more than 25 percent year-on-year (YoY) decline in earnings for our auto pack which will be the third consecutive quarter of more than 20 percent YoY decline in profits,” he said.
Over the last four-five quarters, IT sector has seen a very consistent double-digit profit growth, with the tier I companies outperforming in terms of profit growth in the last three-four quarters, noted Duggad, adding that this is likely to happen this quarter also. "Our own estimates are for 13 percent profit growth for IT in this quarter and reasonably strong topline growth as well which is typically a weak sort of a quarter seasonally.” READ MORE
