Indian shares ended higher on Monday, boosted by gains in metal and financial stocks, as markets continued to cheer over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s return for a second term in office. The Sensex settled 248 points higher at 39,683, while the Nifty50 added 81 points to end at 11,925. Broader markets outperformed benchmark indices with Nifty Midcap and the Nifty Smallcap indices adding 1.6 percent each. Tata Steel, YES Bank, NTPC, L&T, and IOC were among the major gainers on the Nifty50, whereas ZEE, IndusInd Bank, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra, and Bharti Airtel led the losses. Sectoral indices were mixed during the day. The Nifty Realty index gained the most, up nearly 2.2 percent followed by the Nifty Metal (up 2.1 percent), the Nifty PSU Banks (up 2 percent) and the Nifty Bank (up 1.4 percent). Meanwhile, the Nifty Pharma and the Nifty Media indices declined 1 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.

Deutsche Bank expects RBI to cut interest rate twice by October

The finance ministry on Sunday said it is considering to launch an exchange-traded fund (ETF) linked with PSU bank stocks, in a move to diversify and provide more options to ETF investors. The government is planning to diversify the ETF basket by including stocks of public sector banks and financial institutions. ETFs function like mutual funds that duplicate existing indices.
The government currently has two exchange-traded funds -- CPSE ETF and Bharat-22 ETF -- listed on domestic exchanges. The CPSE ETF holds the same basket of stocks and in the same proportion as the Nifty CPSE Index while the Bharat 22 ETF will invest in similar composition and weightages as in Bharat 22 Index. DLF reduced its net debt by 38 percent during the fourth quarter of last fiscal to Rs 4,483 crore with the help of funds raised from selling shares to institutional investors. According to an investors presentation, DLF's net debt has come down "from Rs 7,224 crore in Q3 of FY19 to Rs 4,483 crore in Q4 of FY19".
In March, DLF raised Rs 3,173 crore by selling shares to institutional investors through its qualified institutional placement (QIP) offer. The company had offered 17.3 crore shares to investors at an issue price of Rs 183.40 per share. DLF's net debt would further come down during the current quarter with likely infusion of Rs 2,250 crore into the company by promoters. READ MORE

State-owned natural gas processing and distribution company Gail will report its fourth-quarter earnings on Monday and the company expected to report a weak set of numbers on a sequential basis on the back of weak LNG demand. The spot LNG prices declined during the quarter and the profits were lower in the LPG segment due to low product prices. However, the petrochemical segment is expected to do better because of lower gas cost and higher plan utilisation. The street expects revenue to decline by 7 percent at Rs 18,400 crore and EBITDA is seen down 10.7 percent at Rs 2386 crore.

The consumption sector will see an uptick as the consumption level will come back in the next couple of quarters, but whether it is going to this quarter or next quarter is a question of timing, said S Subramanian, managing director of institutional equities, and Chirag Negandhi, the joint managing director and co-CEO at Axis Capital.
“There are two important elements. The consumption level will take a couple of quarters to come back but in terms of auto and all, I think the stock prices have completely bottomed out.
