Indian shares ended higher on Wednesday, snapping a three-day losing streak helped by banking, energy, and IT stocks, ahead of April F&O expiry. Gains in index heavyweights like RIL, HDFC, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and TCS also lifted the indices. The BSE Sensex settled at 39,054, up 490 points, while the broader NSE Nifty50 ended at 11,726, adding 150 points. Nifty Midcap gained 0.8 percent while Nifty Smallcap rose 0.7 percent. Ultratech Cements, BPCL, HCL Tech, ONGC, and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers on the Nifty, while, Tata Motors, HeroMoto Corp, Coal India, Maruti Suzuki, and Cipla fell the most on the index. All sectoral indices, except Nifty Auto were trading in the green. Banking indices and Nifty IT rose the most, up over 1 percent each. Nifty Pharma and Nifty realty also gained 0.7 percent each.

Ultratech Cement posted a standalone net profit of Rs 1,017.47 crore in the fourth quarter of FY 2018-19, 108 percent up compared to Rs 487.95 crore in the same period last year.

Reserve Bank of India is the first central bank in the Asia-Pacific region to begin an explicit interest rate easing cycle buoyed by benign food inflation and easier global financial condition, Fitch Ratings said on Wednesday.
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), headed by RBI Govenor Shaktikanta Das, cut rates in February and April citing prospects of benign inflation. In the four months of 2019, the RBI has cut policy interest rates twice by 0.25 percent each to one-year low of 6 percent. This is the first back-to-back rate cut since the MPC was formed in late 2016. READ MORE

The rights issue of Vodafone Idea, the country's largest telecoms firm by subscribers, was under-subscribed on the last day of bidding on Wednesday. Vodafone Idea, which plans to raise up to Rs 25,000 crore, has received bids for 1,034 crore shares against the total issue size of 2,000 crore, as per NSE data. The company has fixed the issue price at Rs 12.50.
The issue price of Rs 12.50 per equity share (including a premium of Rs 2.50 per equity share) was at a 27 percent discount to the today's trading price of Rs 17.20 per share. READ MORE
