The BSE Sensex closed at record high 36,548.41, notching 282.48 points, or rising by 0.78 percent. The Nifty 50 settled at above 11,023, rising higher by 74.90 points, or 0.68 percent. Reliance and HDFC twins were top contributers to Nifty gains. Nifty MidCap, however, turned negative in the last hour of trading. Sensex slipped over 100 points from the day's high.

Indian shares consolidated gains in the last hour of the trading with the Sensex trading below 36,600 mark and the Nifty staying above 11,000 level. The Sensex added 293 points, or 0.81 percent, rising to 36,558.64 at 3.01 pm, while the Nifty was at 11,028.90, gaining 80.60 points, or 0.74 percent. Both Nifty and Sensex MidCaps were under pressure, falling nearly 0.4 percent. Vedanta lost the most on the BSE, fallin gby 3.03 percent, followed by Infosys, Bajaj Auto, M&M, Hero MotoCorp. Gainers include Reliance, Wipro, HDFC, L&T, SBI, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, HUL, IndusInd Bank.

Nifty and Sensex MidCaps traded lower by up to half a percent, while sectoral indices were trading mixed. Among BSE sectoral indices, Oil & Gas surged 1.63 percent, BSE Energy surged 3.42 percent.BSE Realty, Teck, Telecom, Information Technology were among losers. Top gainers include Reliance, Dr Reddy's Labs, Bajaj Finance, BPCL, HPCL, Yes Bank, HDFC, HUL, while the laggards were Bajaj Auto, Infosys, M&M, UPL, Bharti Infratel.
