Nifty FMCG index rose over 2 percent to hit a one-month high of 29,844.80 points due to a fall in global prices of raw material palm oil and buying by mutual funds, said dealers. Funds have purchased shares of leading fast-moving consumer goods companies, such as Hindustan Unilever and Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Health Care, said an institutional dealer. Fast-moving consumer goods stocks are seen as a safer bet in a volatile market, said another dealer at a mutual fund, adding stock prices are likely to see further gains as the companies are unlikely to cut personal product prices with lower palm oil prices, a key raw material in making soaps. Shares of Hindustan Unilever, P&G Hygiene and Godrej Consumer Products were up 1-4 percent. (Cogencis)
