Indices ended higher for the second consecutive day on Friday led by auto, metal, pharma, FMCG stocks, while weakness in bank shares kept gains in check. The volatility in the Indian rupee also weighed on investor sentiment along with tepid global cues owing to trade war concerns and emerging market turmoil. The BSE Sensex ended 147 points higher at 38,390, up by 0.38 percent, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 0.45 percent to close higher by 52 points at 11,589. Both midcaps ended with over 1.3 percent gains, while Nifty Bank ended in the green after volatile trade. Hero MotoCorp, Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Auto ended over 5 percent of gains, while Bharti Airtel, Lupin and M&M ended with upwards of 4 percent. Losses too were sharp in Yes Bank which declined 4.66 percent, while Sun Pharma, Adani Ports, HDFC, PowerGrid Corp and SBI also dipped by up to nearly 2 percent. Auto and Metal among sectoral indices jump over 2 percent each.

Shares of Motherson Sumi Systems traded 4.51 percent higher at Rs 303.80 on Friday at 3.15 pm on the NSE as the company recommends bonus shares on completing twenty five (25) years of listing of its equity shares on stock exchanges. The board of directors of company in their meeting held on September 7, 2018 recommended the issue of bonus shares in the ratio of 1 bonus share against the 2 existing equity shares subject to the approval of the shareholders. The stock has ranged between a high and a low of Rs 308 and Rs 290.10, respectively.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex jumped 165 points to trade at 38,408, rising by 0.43 percent, while the NSE Nifty 50 traded near 11,600, at 11,593, rising by 56 points, or 0.48 percent at 3.15 pm.

Nifty Auto rose 2.16 percent on Thursday, rising by 233 points to trade at 11,031 at 3 pm, primarily led by sharp jump in shares of Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Motherson Sumi, M&M, TVS Motor and Tata Motors, which rose between 2.70 percent and 4.65 percent. In a pack of 16 shares on the sectoral indice, only Maruti Suzuki and Eicher Motors traded negative between 0.3 and 0.37 percent. Other stocks like Ashok Leyland, MRF and Apollo Tyres, Bosch, MRF also rose.

Benchmark indices added to their gains in a largely rangebound trade on Friday afternoon, but weak bank shares keep indexes under check. The BSE Sensex jumped by nearly 80 points to trade at 38,322, while the NSE Nifty 50 traded higher by 32 points or 0.28 percent to 11,569. Shares of Bajaj Auto , Hero MotoCorp, Lupin, Bharti Airtel, M&M and Tata Steel surged between 3.09 percent and nearly 5 percent. Yes Bank was top drag with 4.79 percent fall, while Sun Pharma, Power Grid Corp., SBI, Adani Ports declined between 1.5 percent and 2 percent. Both midcaps rose with the Nifty MidCap higher by 1.38 percent and the BSE MidCap up by 1.15 percent. Bank share traded weak with maximum weakness seen in PSU Bank shares.

Shares of Coal India and NTPC rose after CNBC-TV18 reported that the Ministry of Finance has given an in-principle approval for share buyback by 13 public sector undertakings. Coal India and NTPC were among the 13 companies that will be asked to make an offer to buyback their shares, the report said. The Ministry of Finance is looking at share buyback plans as a means to meet its Rs 800 billion divestment target for 2018-19 (April-March). At 1.33 pm, shares of Coal India traded 1% higher at Rs 286.45, while those of NTPC added 0.1% to trade at Rs 169.

Equity indices trade near the day's high with midcaps leading the charge but weakness in bank shares has capped gains. The BSE Sensex traded higher by 54 points or 0.14 percent to 38,297, while the NSE Nifty 50 was trading at 11,562, up by 25 points, or 0.22 percent at 1.30 pm. The Nifty MidCap surged over a percent, while the BSE MidCap was higher by 0.85 percent. Nifty Bank was weak, trading lower by 0.33 percent, while PSU Bank declined by 1.31 percent. PVT Bank also edged lower by 0.21 percent. Metal and Pharma traded higher.

Shares of Welspun Corp rose nearly 5 percent as company entered in to an agreement for supply of at 220 KMT of pipes for oil and gas project in the Americas region. With this addition, the company's current order book stands at 1,776 KMTs valued at Rs 150 billion.

Shares of Tata Motors rose 3.3 percent to hit its one-month high of Rs 278.80 on heavy volumes as investors turn slightly positive on the stock after the company posted strong passenger and commercial vehicle sales in August. The stock quoted at Rs 277.50 a piece, higher by 2.8 percent on the NSE at 12.23 pm, after opening at Rs 269.55.

The broader 50-share NSE index traded 16 points up at 11,553.50, nearing the day's high of 11,566.5. The index has touched an intra-day low of 11,484 so far. The BSE Sensex traded at 38262, higher by 22 points or over 200 points from the day's low of 38,067. .
