JSW Steel at 11-month low as demand concerns resurface##JSW Steel at 11-month low as demand concerns resurface

Shares of JSW Steel plunged over 3 percent to hit their nearly 11-month low of Rs 274.55 after the International Monetary Fund's cut in global growth forecast for 2019 revived concerns over global demand for steel products. IMF lowered its global growth forecast by 20 basis points and now sees the global economy growing at 3.5 percent in 2019. Options show Nifty 50 to fall more in near term##Options show Nifty 50 to fall more in near term

Positioning by traders in the options segment of the Nifty 50 indicated that they expect the index to fall more in the coming sessions. Traders aggressively sold the 11000-point strike price call option of the index and the contract holds the highest open interest among the index's call options. They also actively bought the index's put options. The 10,500 strike price holds the second-highest open interest, indicating that the index is likely to fall below that level in the coming sessions. In the futures segment, traders added short positions in the January futures contract, though participation was muted. Open interest in the futures contract rose 0.3 percent to 24.85 million. In the cash segment, the index was down 0.7 percent at 10,884.60 points. (Cogencis)

This is the most bipolar market in recent memory##This is the most bipolar market in recent memory

After a decent rally in November and December, the market has started to show some curious data points. Let’s look at some internals of this month:

The Nifty is up 0.9 percent and knocking on the doors of 11,000 repeatedly. However, only two stock — Reliance and Infosys — have contributed 1.8 percent of the Nifty move. The balance 48 stocks are actually leading the index down 0.9 percent.

The Midcap Index is down 2.8 percent and Nifty Junior is down 3 percent. The Nifty Junior broadly represents the non-index largecap market.

The advance/decline ratio which basically measures how many stocks are up vs down on a given day on an average has been 1:2 in favour of declines. There has been only one day in January where the advance/decline has been decently in favour of advances.
