SBI expects domestic loan growth at 14-15% going forward##SBI expects domestic loan growth at 14-15% going forward

PK Gupta, MD of State Bank of India, spoke to CNBC-TV18 about the lender's provisioning and growth outlook.

"The fresh slippages are lower so most of the provisioning that we are seeing right now is on account of ageing provisioning," Gupta said on Friday.

Talking about the business, Gupta said, “Credit growth which was tepid in the last two-three years, somewhere in 5-6 percent range is already in double digit and it is expected to go up even further.”

On the loan growth front, he said, “We see no reason why we cannot operate at a level of 14-15 percent growth going forward.”

In the 2008-09 period, we made two bets that are still working out.

We got very bullish on media stocks as they were great franchises but were still available cheap. We bought companies like TV Today, Sun TV, and Zee Entertainment. TV Today was the leader in Hindi news for the past 15 out of 15 years in India.

Oil update: Oil prices fall on China economy worries, but output cuts support##Oil update: Oil prices fall on China economy worries, but output cuts support

Oil prices dipped on Friday amid concerns over slowing economic growth in China and as investors cashed in on gains of over 2 percent from the previous session, although supply cuts agreed last week by major crude producers offered some support.

International benchmark Brent crude oil futures were at $60.97 per barrel at 0740 GMT, down 48 cents, or 0.8 percent, from their last close. Brent is set for a drop of around 1 percent this week

China, the world's No.2 economy and the largest crude importer, on Friday reported some of its slowest growth in retail sales and industrial output in years, highlighting the risks of the country's trade dispute with the United States.

Chinese November oil refinery throughput fell from October, which was the second-highest month on record, suggesting an easing in oil demand, though runs were 2.9 percent above levels a year earlier.

Global Markets: Asian shares jolted by grim Chinese data, growth risks##Global Markets: Asian shares jolted by grim Chinese data, growth risks

Asian shares tumbled on Friday after China reported a set of weak data, fanning fresh worries of a slowdown in the world's second-biggest economy and leaving investors fretting over the wider impact of a yet unresolved Sino-U.S. trade dispute.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 1.3 percent. Japan's Nikkei, also dragged down by the country's weak tankan sentiment index, dropped 2.0 percent.

China's benchmark Shanghai Composite and the blue-chip CSI 300 closed down 1.5 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng was off 1.5 percent.

Financial spread-betters expect London's FTSE Frankfurt's DAX and Paris's CAC to fall between 0.7 and 0.8 percent when they open.

China's November retail sales grew at the weakest pace since 2003 and industrial output rose the least in nearly three years as domestic demand softened further, underlining rising risks to the economy as Beijing works to defuse a trade dispute with the United States.

A Chinese statistics bureau spokesman said the November data showed downward pressure on the economy is increasing.
