Closing Bell: Sensex settles 428 points higher, Nifty at 12126, Bajaj Fin, HDFC twins, HUL, RIL lift indices##Closing Bell: Sensex settles 428 points higher, Nifty at 12126, Bajaj Fin, HDFC twins, HUL, RIL lift indices
The BSE Sensex settled 428 points higher, or 1.05 percent, at 41,323 at close on Wednesday. The NSE Nifty50 setled 133 points up, rising 1.11 percent, at 12,126. The Nifty MidCap index also rose 1.49 percent, outperforming frontline peer. The banking gauge, Bank Nifty climbed 0.90 percent. Bharti Infratel, Grasim Industries, Coal India, HUL and Zee Entertainment were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Sun Pharma, TCS and Bharti Airtel. Among sectors, pharma, metal, infra, FMCG and Energy rose 1 percent each. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended with 1.3 percent gain. READ MORE

The FMCG major has reportedly hiked the price of its Lifebuoy soaps by up to 12 percent and of Lux soaps by up to 5.6 percent last week. The company has hiked prices of its soap products due to rising cost of palm oil, which is a key raw material in manufacturing soaps. Earlier, the company had said it was looking to hike prices in a phased manner in the current quarter, even though it was staying cautious on the near-term market outlook.

Shares of Vodafone Idea jumped over 36 percent today as concerns over the company remaining a going concern eased slightly on a report the government is backing a three-private player market and is unlikely to invoke the company's bank guarantees for now. On Tuesday, officials of the telecom and the finance ministries met Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba to consider postponing other payments for telecom companies to bring relief, a report by the Economic Times said. Invoking bank guarantees would be the precursor to termination of telecom licences, the report said, citing an official.
Shares quoted at Rs 4.10 apiece, jumping over 36 percent on NSE at 1.04 pm.

Shares of SpiceJet jumped 7% after the company said it will start 20 new domestic flights from March 29, which will aid in lifting its revenues. With the commencement of these new flights, the airline will now operate a total of 52 flights connecting 12 cities under the regional connectivity scheme or Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik routes of Varanasi-Patna and Amritsar-Patna, the company said in an exchange filing. All the new flights introduced will be operational daily and the airline will deploy a mix of its Boeing 737-800 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft on all these routes, the company said.
