The interim Budget session will begin on Thursday amid anticipations over the possible announcement of a farm relief package by the Modi government ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing media on Thursday, said he expects all parliamentarians to utilise the session for detailed discussions over issues. He hoped that the Budget session will be "productive".
This is the last Budget of the Modi-led government before the nation goes to polls in April 2019 and as per the tradition, the outgoing government is supposed to present an interim budget or a vote-on-account before the Lok Sabha elections and the new government presents a full budget for the fiscal year.
The Budget will be presented by interim finance minister Piyush Goyal, who took over charge in the absence Arun Jaitley, who is currently undergoing treatment abroad.
