03:52 PM EDT, 08/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US benchmark equity indexes were mixed ahead of Monday's close as markets awaited key inflation data due later in the week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.5% at 39,307.5, while the S&P 500 eased 0.2% to 5,336.2. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.1% to 16,756.9. Among sectors, real estate led the decliners, while only technology and energy were in the green.
The official US producer price report for July is scheduled to be released Tuesday, while consumer inflation data are due Wednesday. The figures are likely to show the consumer price index last month rose 0.2% sequentially and 3% annually, according to a Bloomberg consensus.
The US 10-year yield fell 4 basis points to 3.90%, while the two-year rate dropped 4.2 basis point to 4.01%.
Retail giants Walmart ( WMT ) and Home Depot ( HD ) are scheduled to report quarterly financial results later in the week.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil jumped 3.9% to $79.88 a barrel.
