03:49 PM EDT, 08/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US benchmark equity indexes rose ahead of Monday's close as markets awaited this week's key corporate earnings and the annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 1% at 17,807.6, while the S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 5,592.2. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.4% to 40,813.8. All sectors were in the green, led by communication services and technology.
Palo Alto Networks ( PANW ) is scheduled to post its latest quarterly financial results after the bell, while Intuit (INTU), TJX (TJX), Lowe's (LOW), Analog Devices ( ADI ) and Target ( TGT ) will be reporting later in the week.
The US 10-year yield fell 2.7 basis points to 3.87%, while the two-year rate was little changed at 4.07%.
The two-day Jackson Hole symposium is scheduled to start Thursday with Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell due to speak Friday.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 3% to $74.32 a barrel.
