03:40 PM EDT, 06/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US benchmark equity indexes are on track to close higher Tuesday as investors parse remarks by a Federal Reserve governor and April US job openings data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5% to 42,512.87, the Nasdaq Composite increased 0.9% to 19,409.77, and the S&P 500 advanced 0.6% to 5,970.75. Among sectors, technology posted the biggest gain, and communication services paced the trio of decliners.

Fed Governor Lisa Cook said that while the US economy remains on "a firm footing," uncertainty has increased significantly since the start of the year as changes to trade policy begin to weigh.

US job openings rose to 7.391 million in April, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, higher than the 7.1 million expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg and up from 7.2 million reported for March.

Dollar General ( DG ) shares jumped 16%, the top gainer on the S&P, after the discount retailer raised its full-year revenue and same-store sales growth outlook following better-than-expected fiscal Q1 results.

Meta Platforms ( META ) agreed to buy electricity from Constellation Energy ( CEG ) in a deal that would keep Constellation's nuclear power facility, Clinton Clean Energy Center, operational for two more decades. Constellation shares declined 0.3%, and Meta fell 0.4%.

FactSet Research Systems ( FDS ) shares fell 4.8%, the second-largest drop on the S&P. The company appointed Sanoke Viswanathan as chief executive officer, effective early September, replacing Phil Snow.

The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.3 basis points to 4.46%, and the two-year rate increased 1.7 basis points to 3.97%.

July West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 1.5% to $63.47 a barrel.
