The Nasdaq Composite was down 1% at 15,704.5, while the S&P 500 shed 0.5% to 5,027.3. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.1% to 37,755. Among sectors, technology led the decliners, while utilities paced the gainers.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services (JBHT), Travelers (TRV), Prologis ( PLD ) , and United Airlines (UAL) were among the major companies that reported their latest quarterly results, as the earnings season advanced.
CSX (CSX), Crown Castle ( CCI ) , Kinder Morgan ( KMI ) , and Discover Financial Services ( DFS ) are scheduled to report after the closing bell.
The US 10-year yield fell 6.8 basis points to 4.59%, while the two-year rate dropped 2.5 basis points to 4.94%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil declined 3% to $82.81 per barrel.
