03:50 PM EST, 01/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US benchmark equity indexes were lower ahead of Tuesday's close amid declines in certain mega-cap stocks.
The Nasdaq Composite was down 2.2% at 19,435.1, while the S&P 500 fell 1.4% to 5,892.8. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.7% to 42,401.1. Among sectors, technology and consumer discretionary saw the steepest declines, while energy paced the gainers.
Among mega-cap stocks, Nvidia ( NVDA ) , Amazon.com ( AMZN ) , Apple ( AAPL ) , Microsoft ( MSFT ) , Tesla (TSLA) and Meta Platforms ( META ) all saw decreases.
The US 10-year yield increased 6.7 basis points to 4.69%, while the two-year rate gained 2.5 basis points to 4.3%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil increased 1% to $74.28 a barrel.
