08:57 AM EDT, 03/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 1.7%, and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 1.8% higher in Monday's premarket activity, after US President Donald Trump said he has ordered a five-day pause in attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure.
US stock futures were also higher, with S&P 500 Index futures up 1.9%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 2%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 2.1% before the start of regular trading.
The Chicago Fed National Activity Index came in at negative 0.11 in February, below expectations for 0.04 and down from 0.20 in the prior month.
The construction spending report for January will be released at 10 am ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 3.6%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.6% higher, Ether ETF (EETH) advanced 1.3%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) retreated by 0.3%.

Health Care
The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLV ) advanced 1.2%, the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was up 1.5%, while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) slipped 0.7%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 2.1% higher.
Apogee Therapeutics ( APGE ) stock was up more than 14% premarket after the company said that 52-week maintenance data from Part A of its phase two trial of zumilokibart in patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis demonstrated durable maintenance response and "deepening" response for lesional and itch endpoints.

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) advanced 1.7%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 5.2%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 5.5%.
Apollo Global Management ( APO ) shares were up more than 2% pre-bell after the company agreed to acquire a 37% minority stake in medical equipment manufacturer Syntegon from CVC Capital Partners for an undisclosed sum.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was down 0.3%, while the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLE ) was up by 1.2%.
Uranium Energy ( UEC ) stock was up more than 2% before Monday's opening bell after the company said that it began operating three additional header houses at its Christensen Ranch in-situ recovery project in Wyoming after receiving state regulatory approval.
Industrial
The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLI ) advanced 1.4%, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) was up 2.6% and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) was inactive.
Cadeler ( CDLR ) stock was down more than 1% before the opening bell, adding to the 3.3% loss at the prior close. The company said Monday its Nexra unit has signed an additional firm contract for an operations and maintenance campaign scheduled for 2026.
Consumer
The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) was up 2%, the Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund ETF Shares (VDC) gained 1.6%, and the iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was 1% higher. The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) rose 2.4%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) increased 0.5%, while the State Street SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was 2.2% higher.
Amazon.com ( AMZN ) shares were up more than 1% pre-bell after falling 1.6% at Friday's close. The company's "Project Hail Mary" movie earned roughly $80.5 million in ticket sales in its first weekend playing in North America, news outlets reported Sunday, citing studio estimates.
Technology
The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) advanced by 1.4%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 2.3% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was up 2.7%. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) retreated by 0.8%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by 1.5%.
Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) shares were up more than 1% in premarket trading after Bloomberg News reported that CEO Sung Kim said the company is in discussions to sell 10,000 artificial intelligence accelerators to South Korean startup Upstage.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell by 6.2% to $92.19 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas retreated by 3.7% to $2.98 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund ( USO ) declined by 4.7%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 2.7% lower.
Gold futures for March retreated by 4.2% to $4,417.30 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures fell 3.2% to $67.42 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) fell by 2.8%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.7% lower.
