09:09 AM EDT, 03/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was down 0.5% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.5% lower in Friday's premarket activity as energy market disruption from the ongoing conflict weighed on investor sentiment.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.4%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.3%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.5% before the start of regular trading.
The Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count will be released at 1 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 0.2%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.2% higher, Ether ETF (EETH) retreated by 0.3%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) gained 0.02%.

Technology
The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) retreated 0.4%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 0.02% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was down 0.04%. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) declined 0.1%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) decreased by 0.3%.
Super Micro Computer ( SMCI ) shares were down more than 25% in premarket activity after the company said late Thursday it placed two of its employees on administrative leave and terminated a contractor, effective immediately, after US prosecutors indicted all three individuals over allegedly conspiring to commit export-control violations.

The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) gained 0.1%, while the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLE ) was up by 0.4%.
Flowco ( FLOC ) stock was down more than 10% before Friday's opening bell after the company said late Thursday it priced an underwritten public offering of 7.8 million Class A common shares by selling shareholders at $22 apiece.
Health Care
The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLV ) advanced 0.03%, while the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was down 0.1%, the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) slipped 0.3%, and the iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 0.2% lower.
Rhythm Pharmaceuticals ( RYTM ) stock was up more than 8% premarket after the company said late Thursday the US Food and Drug Administration approved an expanded indication for Imcivree, or setmelanotide, for the treatment of acquired hypothalamic obesity.
Consumer
The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) gained 0.1%, and the Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund ETF Shares (VDC) retreated 0.01%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) advanced 0.01%. The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) increased by 0.2%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) was inactive, while the State Street SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was 0.01% lower.
XPeng ( XPEV ) shares were down more than 2% pre-bell after the company said it expects Q1 deliveries to decrease roughly 30% to 35% compared with a year earlier.

Star Bulk Carriers ( SBLK ) shares were 0.5% higher before the opening bell after Deutsche Bank raised its price target to $30 from $27.

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell by 1.2% to $94.46 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas retreated by 2.8% to $3.08 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund ( USO ) gained by 0.2%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 1.6% lower.
Gold futures for March rose 1.7% to $4,682.50 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures advanced 1.7% to $72.41 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) increased by 0.9%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.7% lower.
