08:26 AM EDT, 10/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% lower in Thursday's premarket activity, ahead of September's CPI report.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.2%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.1%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.3% before the start of regular trading.
The consumer price index for September and the weekly jobless claims bulletin will be released at 8:30 am ET.
The weekly EIA domestic natural gas report posts at 10:30 am ET.
US Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook speaks at 9:15 am ET, Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin at 10:30 am ET, and New York Fed President John Williams at 11 am ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 0.1% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.2% higher.

Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) advanced marginally by 0.04%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was down 0.2% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) fell 1.9%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF ( IBB ) slipped 0.01%.
10x Genomics' ( TXG ) shares were down more than 27% premarket after the company overnight said preliminary results showed a revenue decline of about 1% year over year to roughly $151.7 million for Q3 that ended Sept. 30.

Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) decreased by 0.1% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) were inactive.
Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) fell 6.3% pre-bell after the company reported lower Q3 earnings.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLF ) retreated 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) declined 0.03%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.3% higher.
PayPal Holdings ( PYPL ) shares were down 1.7% pre-bell Thursday after Bernstein downgraded the company's stock to market perform from outperform.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLK ) retreated 0.4%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was inactive, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was up 0.2%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) was inactive, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF ( SOXX ) declined 0.3%.
Fortive ( FTV ) stock was up 1.6% in recent Thursday premarket activity after JPMorgan upgraded the company to overweight from neutral and lifted its price target to $92 from $90.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was down 0.1% while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was inactive. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) retreated marginally by 0.03%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) were inactive.
NIKE ( NKE ) shares were up 1.4% pre-bell after Truist upgraded the company's stock to buy from hold and raised its price target to $97 from $83.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was up by 0.3%.
Centrus Energy ( LEU ) was down 1% before Thursday's opening bell after Roth MKM downgraded the company's stock to neutral from buy.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 1.1% to $74.06 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was down 1.8% at $2.61 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) advanced 0.9%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) retreated 1.2%.
Gold futures for December advanced 0.1% to $2,628.40 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures gained 0.2% to reach $30.75 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) were up 0.03%, and iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.1% higher.
