08:32 AM EDT, 10/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was down 0.1% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% lower in Tuesday's premarket activity, weighed down by tensions in the Middle East and economic data releasing this week.
US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.1%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.2%, and Nasdaq futures retreating marginally by 0.02% before the start of regular trading.
The S&P Global PMI manufacturing final for September will be released at 9:45 am ET.
Reports releasing at 10 am ET include August's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, aka JOLTS, September's ISM Manufacturing Index, and construction spending for August.
Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic speaks at 11 am ET. A public conversation with Federal Reserve presidents is slated for 6:15 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was up by 0.5% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.4% higher.

Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) was flat. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was inactive while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) was flat. The iShares Biotechnology ETF ( IBB ) was inactive.
Shattuck Labs ( STTK ) shares were down more than 57% premarket after the company said that it was discontinuing its SL-172154 clinical program for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia and higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes.

Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLK ) retreated 0.2%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was flat, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was up 1%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) rose 0.8%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF ( SOXX ) advanced 0.1%.
Arqit Quantum ( ARQQ ) shares were down more than 17% in recent Tuesday premarket activity after the company said late Monday it is launching a registered direct offering of about 5.4 million of its ordinary shares priced at $2.50 apiece for gross proceeds of about $13.6 million.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLF ) retreated by 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was down 0.5%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.5% higher.
CPI Card Group ( PMTS ) shares were down 12% pre-bell Tuesday after the company said late Monday a registered underwritten public offering by certain selling shareholders of 1.2 million shares of the company's common stock was priced at $21 per share for expected gross proceeds of $25.2 million.
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was flat, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) was up 0.1%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) lost 0.02%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) were inactive.
Nio (NIO) shares were up 4.6% pre-bell after the company reported higher September and Q3 vehicle deliveries from a year earlier.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was down by 0.3%.
Antero Resources ( AR ) stock was down 1.9% before Tuesday's opening bell after Wells Fargo downgraded the oil and natural gas company to underweight from overweight, and cut its price target to $25 from $34.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) retreated 0.3% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) gained 0.4%. The iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) was inactive.
GFL Environmental ( GFL ) stock was down 1.2% before the opening bell after the company said that it has priced $210 million of Florida Development Finance's solid waste disposal revenue bonds at 4.375% with an initial mandatory tender date of Oct. 1, 2031.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil retreated 0.9% to $67.55 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was down 1.3% at $2.88 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) declined 1.3%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) fell 1.9%.
Gold futures for December were up 0.4% at $2,670.50 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures rose 0.5% to $31.61 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) gained 0.8%, and iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.8% higher.
