09:03 AM EST, 02/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.3%, and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% lower in Wednesday's premarket activity, as markets traded mixed ahead of Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Q4 earnings report due after markets close.
US stock futures were mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.2%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gaining 0.2%, and Nasdaq futures slipping 0.2% before the start of regular trading.
US mortgage applications fell 8.9% in the week ended Jan. 30, extending the prior week's decline, even as 30-year fixed mortgage rates moved lower, Mortgage Bankers Association data showed Wednesday.
US private-sector employment grew by 22,000 in January, undershooting Bloomberg's expectations of a 45,000 increase, ADP data showed Wednesday.
The S&P Global January composite final purchasing managers index bulletin will be released at 9:45 am ET.
The ISM services index for last month logs at 10 am, followed by the weekly EIA petroleum status release at 10:30 am.
Federal Reserve official Thomas Barkin is slated to speak Wednesday.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 0.5%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.3% lower, Ether ETF (EETH) fell 2.4%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) declined by 4%.

The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) retreated 0.4%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 0.1% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was down 0.1%. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) gained 0.9%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) declined by 0.6%.
CDW (CDW) shares were up more than 7% in recent premarket activity after the company reported higher Q4 adjusted earnings and revenue.

GSK (GSK) stock was up more than 4% premarket after the company reported higher Q4 core earnings and sales.

Devon Energy ( DVN ) stock was up more than 1% before Wednesday's opening bell after Barclays upgraded the company to overweight from equalweight and lifted its price target to $50 from $42.

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was up by 0.4% at $63.46 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas gained by 0.9% to reach $3.34 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund ( USO ) declined by 0.9%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 0.2% lower.
Gold futures for March advanced 2.9% to $5,079.60 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures rose 7.9% to $89.83 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) increased by 2.1%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was up 5.9%.
