08:21 AM EDT, 07/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ( SPY ) was up 0.4% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.6% higher in Tuesday's premarket activity, ahead of the key CPI report.
US stock futures were mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.4%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.03%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.6% before the start of regular trading.
The June Consumer Price Index and the Empire State Manufacturing Index for July will be released at 8:30 am ET.
Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman, Governor Michael Barr, Richmond President Thomas Barkin, Boston President Susan Collins and Dallas President Lorie Logan speak on Tuesday.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 2.9% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 2.7% lower.

The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) advanced 0.02%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund ( VHT ) was down 0.3% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF ( IYH ) was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.7%.
Acumen Pharmaceuticals ( ABOS ) stock was nearly 20% higher premarket after the company said it has entered into a collaboration, option, and license agreement with JCR Pharmaceuticals to develop an oligomer-targeted Enhanced Brain Delivery therapy for Alzheimer's disease.

The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLP ) was flat, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) declined marginally by 0.01%. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF ( IYK ) was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ) gained 0.1%. The VanEck Retail ETF ( RTH ) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ) were inactive.
Lithia Motors ( LAD ) shares were up over 2% pre-bell after the company said it expects Q2 net income of $9.70 to $10 per diluted share, higher than the estimate of analysts polled by FactSet.

Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) retreated 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares ( FAS ) was down 0.4%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares ( FAZ ) was 0.3% higher.
Wells Fargo ( WFC ) shares were down more than 2% pre-bell Tuesday after the bank lowered its net interest income to be "roughly in line with 2024," down from its previous projection of an increase of 1% to 3%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLI ) advanced 0.1% while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund ( VIS ) retreated 0.01% and the iShares US Industrials ETF ( IYJ ) was inactive.
KBR (KBR) stock was up nearly 1% before the opening bell after the company said its joint venture with Socar has received two contracts from BP (BP) for energy projects in Azerbaijan.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) advanced 1.1%, and the iShares US Technology ETF ( IYW ) was 1.1% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF ( IGM ) was up 0.2%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) was 1% higher, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose by 1.7%.
Oracle (ORCL) shares were up more than 1% in recent premarket activity after the company said it will invest a combined $3 billion in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in Germany and the Netherlands over the next five years.
Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF ( IYE ) was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLE ) was down by 0.2%.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil retreated 0.1% to $66.91 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas declined 1.5% to $3.41 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was 0.1% higher, while the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG ) was 1.2% lower.
Gold futures for August gained 0.2% to reach $3,366.40 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures were down nearly 0.4% at $38.60 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares ( GLD ) advanced 0.2%, and the iShares Silver Trust ( SLV ) was 0.3% higher.
