Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, US Equities Mixed After Midday

01:00 PM EST, 02/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was fractionally down.

US equity indexes were mixed in midday trading Tuesday as a regional manufacturing gauge improved more than forecast, while a housing index declined steeper than anticipated.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both added about 1.7% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.7%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 2.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) edged up 1.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 1.5%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 1.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil climbed 1.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1.3%. Natural gas was up 4.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 4.2%.

Gold was up 1.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 1.5%. Silver rose 1.5%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 1.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose fractionally; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed with the latter trending higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was down 0.6%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) lost 1%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose 0.1%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) slumped 0.3%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.5%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.8%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
