Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, US Equities Mixed Ahead of Inflation, Monetary Policy Readings

12:56 PM EDT, 06/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, rose Monday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) climbed 0.4%.

US benchmark stock indexes were mixed in choppy trading at midday as most government bond yields rose ahead of the latest reads on inflation and monetary policy.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) gained 1.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) climbed 1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.4%, and iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) gained.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) both gained 1.7% higher.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) dropped 1.8% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 1.8%.

Commodities

Crude rose 2.4%; United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 3%. Natural gas jumped 2.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 1.5%.

Gold was 0.1% higher based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 1.1%. Silver was up 1.2% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 1.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 0.2% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was trading 0.1% lower and the SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was down 0.9%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dropped 0.4%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.6%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 0.2%, while iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) was down 0.1% and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) was up 0.2%.
