Exchange-Traded Funds Lower as US Equities Fall After Midday

01:13 PM EDT, 04/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.6%.

US equity indexes fell while crude oil futures rose after midday Tuesday after President Donald Trump reiterated his warning to Iran, exhorting them to reach a ceasefire deal before a deadline that expires later in the day.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each rose about 0.4%.

Technology

The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) slipped 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.6% lower, while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) rose 0.2%.

The State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.5%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was up 0.2%.

Financial

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) shed 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) declined 0.4%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), climbed 0.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil was 2% higher, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1.7%. Natural gas gained 1.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 2.3%.

Gold on Comex was fractionally higher, and the State Street SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 0.1%. Silver was down 1.5%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) lost 1.7%.

Consumer

The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 1.2%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) dipped 1.3%, and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) was 0.5% lower.

The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) dropped 1.7%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) fell 0.8%, while the State Street SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was down 0.7%.

Health Care

The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose fractionally, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) fell, and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) moved higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) shed 0.8%.

Industrial

The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) shed 0.3%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) fell 0.2%, and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) was down 0.4%.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) fell 2.1%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) dipped 2.2%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) dropped 2.7%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) climbed 4%.
