Exchange-Traded Funds Lower, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV fell. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.1%

US equity indexes and government bond yields were mixed in midday trading on Tuesday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) edged up 0.1%, while Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 0.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was fractionally lower; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) rose 0.3% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) gained 0.2%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) climbed 2%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) lost 0.5%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 1.2%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 1.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 2.7%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) jumped 2.8%. Natural gas fell 4.6%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) slumped 4.7%.

Gold was up 0.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.5%. Silver advanced 1.9%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.7% higher.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) edged down 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also in the red.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 0.1% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) also retreated.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.1% and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) also added 0.1%. Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) was fractionally lower, while iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dropped 0.7%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) eased 0.6%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also lower.
