Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM moved higher while IVV declined, and actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) shed 0.3%.
US equity indexes were down in midday trading on Tuesday as mega-cap banks kicked off the Q4 earnings season in earnest and investors weighed the inflation print.
Energy
IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each added about 1.8%.
Technology
The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) declined.
The State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) climbed 1%.
Financial
The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) slipped 1.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 5.5%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was up 5.3%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 2.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 2.7%. Natural gas dipped 1.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) shed 0.3%.
Gold on Comex was down 0.1%, and the State Street SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added less than 0.1%. Silver gained 2.9%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 1.9%.
Consumer
The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was 0.8% higher. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) rose as well.
The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) slipped 0.6%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) moved higher.
Health Care
The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dipped 0.9%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also edged lower. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dropped 0.6%.
Industrial
The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) added 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were mixed, with the latter falling 0.5%.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) was up 1.9%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) added 2.4%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) rose 2.9%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) gained 2.3%.
