Exchange-Traded Funds Mixed, US Equities Lower After Midday Trading

01:10 PM EST, 11/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM rose and IVV declined Monday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.1%.

US equity indexes declined as government bond yields dropped and the dollar depreciated after an influential poll called into question growing expectations for former President Donald Trump's return to The White House.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) gained 1.6% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added 1.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) both climbed fractionally.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 0.4% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) declined 0.01%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was 2% lower, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) advanced 2%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 3%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 2.9%. Natural gas added 3.9%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 3.5%.

Gold fell 0.2% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.1%. Silver was down 0.3%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 0.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 0.2% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) fell 0.1% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 1.1%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dropped 0.6%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were trending lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.3%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.2%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
