Exchange-Traded Funds Mixed, US Equities Lower After Midday Trading

01:02 PM EST, 11/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM rose while IVV fell. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) edged down 1.2%.

US benchmark stock indexes traded lower midday Wednesday as traders assessed a slew of economic data released before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE), and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each rose about 0.3%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dropped 2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) declined 2.6%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 2.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) added nearly 1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) shed 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 0.6%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.4%. Natural gas edged down 6.7%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 7.3%.

Gold was up 0.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 0.3%. Silver retreated 0.9%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 1.4%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.6%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also rose.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) dipped 0.6%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) advanced.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.8%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also climbed. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.9%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.2%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
