Exchange-Traded Funds Mixed, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

01:07 PM EDT, 03/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were mixed, with the latter trading higher. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 1.1%.

US benchmark stock indexes rose, led by communication services, and government bond yields advanced after midday trading on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) gained 0.7% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 0.5%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 0.9%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) edged up 0.3% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) was down 0.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 1.5% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 1.6%.

Commodities

Crude was up 1.5%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 1.6%. Natural gas was up 2.9% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) increased 0.4%.

Gold was fractionally higher based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was up 0.1%. Silver was down 0.5% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) slid 0.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.9%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) increased 0.8%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.5% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.3%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) gained 0.4% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher.
