US equity indexes and government bond yields traded mixed in midday trading Wednesday ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision and potentially upcoming trade talks with China.
Energy
IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was 0.4% higher; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 0.2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 0.4%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 2.7%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 2.9%.
Commodities
Crude oil was down 1.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) shed 1%. Natural gas added 3.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 4%.
Gold declined 0.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 1%. Silver retreated 1.6%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 1.7%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.5%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) added 0.7%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) gained 1%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.7%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) climbed 0.9%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) rose 0.8%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also increased.
